My goal this week is to try to catch up on all of the new recent (and not so recent) releases that I keep putting aside for one reason or another. Here's Jesse H. Reign "The Step Bro Situation." It's the first book in her Situationship series.
["It’s official, my step bro is the biggest himbo ever to himbo.
He’s a massive blond beefcake with a soft heart and an over-eager smile. The mere sight of him incites a shaking hot rage in me.
He’s everywhere. He’s around me all the time. So sweet and gentle it makes me feel wild. I see him and smell him everywhere. And when I can’t see him or smell him, I hear him. The wall between our bedrooms is paper thin. I can’t help it - I hear what he does in his room when he thinks he’s alone. I hear everything.
I know I shouldn’t do it. It’s obviously a terrible, terrible idea. Still, I bide my time. I wait, and I wait, and finally, I pounce.
“Luke! I know what you’re doing in there.”"]
I'm not entirely sure I liked Jesse at first. Okay, no, scratch that, I hated him. I couldn't stand him. There's grumpy/surly and then there's asshole. I told himself to keep reading, give him the benefit of the doubt (he has been through some stuff at a very formable age), but I almost didn't finish this. I wanted him to be nice to Luke, damnit! And I thought I'd be annoyed by Luke.
Luke was a little bit of a himbo. A cinnamon roll mixed with sunshine mixed with far too much innocence and happiness. He was confused and got hurt multiple times, but he never let it get him down. He was resilient, and in the end, it worked out for him.
But together? Holy. Fucking. Shit. Together they were fire. They matched each other like oil and water, like gasoline and a match actually. They fed off each other, balanced each other. They made each other stronger. Fluff and sweetness, spice and steam. All of it.
