I'm (sorta) caught up with ARCs, so here's to crossing things off my TBR list(s). Here's Charli Meadows's "The Bro Pact." It's the first novel in her Best Bros Forever series.
["Kyle
I had my entire future mapped out, which is exactly how I prefer things—organized and predictable. Law school, marriage, two-point-five kids, and a white picket fence. Nothing extravagant, just a little family of my own, and a place to call home.
But life has other plans when my long-term girlfriend dumps me at the end of freshman year, and I’m left feeling empty and rejected.
Luckily, my best friend, Warren, is there—like he always is—to make me smile and laugh, distracting me with his latest wild idea. And this one might just take the cake.
He proposes a pact—no girls this summer. Just bros for three whole months.
And I accept.
Warren
When my best friend and I find ourselves burned by the opposite sex and moping around a bonfire in his parents’ backyard, I take it upon myself to better our situation.
I fix up an old RV, and we start the summer with an epic road trip to the Pacific that I’m hoping will repair his broken heart. But Kyle keeps creeping on me, stealing shy glances that roam my body and make me feel things I shouldn’t.
It turns out this bro pact is a lot harder than either of us anticipated, and it’s pushing us together in ways we never imagined. Ways that have us questioning just how deep our bromance truly goes."]
I love how these two fell into this...thing between them mutually. It was mutual second-glances, mutual confusion, mutual horniness, mutual pining, mutual Feelings. It was equal, even if it didn't seem that way to them. It was soft and beautiful and inevitable.
And of course it started with dares. Well, it started by accident, but it was fueled by dares (and alcohol) (and mutual, off-the-charts chemistry).
Though they did make me cry..
Trigger Warnings: brief flashback to parental abandonment, minor internalized homophobia, and more.
