Legend (Pride F.C. #1)

My goal this week is to try to catch up on all of the new recent (and not so recent) releases that I keep putting aside for one reason or another. Here's Isla Olsen and Willow Thomas's "Legend." It's the first book in their new Pride F.C. series.

["Tom
Legend of the Game. That’s me, apparently. I suppose it’s meant to be a compliment, but to me it just sounds like one of those labels people slap on you when you’re on your way out.
Legend. Stalwart. Dinosaur. It all sounds the same to me.
I’ve been in the Premier League for over twenty years and I’m not ready to leave. I’m definitely not about to let myself get pushed out by a flashy upstart like Archie Milligan.
The kid is way too shiny, way too bouncy…and way too attractive. And if I have to spend any more time training one-on-one with him, I’m going to go insane.

Archie
Playing for Croydon Pride has been a dream of mine since I was a little kid. The circumstances that led to me switching clubs weren’t ideal, but I’ve always been a bright side kind of guy, so I plan to make the most of it.
There’s just one problem. Tom Whitford—AKA the not-so-secret object of all my youthful fantasies, and my current training partner—is a total arsehole.
He thinks we’re rivals, but all I want is to be mates. Okay, maybe that’s not all I want, but it’s what I’ll take…after all, what are the odds the legendary player I’ve been swooning over for years is not only secretly attracted to men, but to me in particular?
"]

As predicted, this book gave me all of the feels. There was pining and friendship and lust and confusion and love and obsession and possession and newness and a dog. It was just overall, just a fucking great book. Minor angst. So. Damn. Good.

I can't fucking wait for the rest of the series (I can already see who they'll be about).

And now I have to add Willow Thomas to my to-binge list.

The Step Bro Situation (Situationship #1)

My goal this week is to try to catch up on all of the new recent (and not so recent) releases that I keep putting aside for one reason or another. Here's Jesse H. Reign "The Step Bro Situation." It's the first book in her Situationship series.

["It’s official, my step bro is the biggest himbo ever to himbo.
He’s a massive blond beefcake with a soft heart and an over-eager smile. The mere sight of him incites a shaking hot rage in me.
He’s everywhere. He’s around me all the time. So sweet and gentle it makes me feel wild. I see him and smell him everywhere. And when I can’t see him or smell him, I hear him. The wall between our bedrooms is paper thin. I can’t help it - I hear what he does in his room when he thinks he’s alone. I hear everything.
I know I shouldn’t do it. It’s obviously a terrible, terrible idea. Still, I bide my time. I wait, and I wait, and finally, I pounce.
“Luke! I know what you’re doing in there.”"]

I'm not entirely sure I liked Jesse at first. Okay, no, scratch that, I hated him. I couldn't stand him. There's grumpy/surly and then there's asshole. I told himself to keep reading, give him the benefit of the doubt (he has been through some stuff at a very formable age), but I almost didn't finish this. I wanted him to be nice to Luke, damnit! And I thought I'd be annoyed by Luke.

Luke was a little bit of a himbo. A cinnamon roll mixed with sunshine mixed with far too much innocence and happiness. He was confused and got hurt multiple times, but he never let it get him down. He was resilient, and in the end, it worked out for him.

But together? Holy. Fucking. Shit. Together they were fire. They matched each other like oil and water, like gasoline and a match actually. They fed off each other, balanced each other. They made each other stronger. Fluff and sweetness, spice and steam. All of it.

Employing Patience (Divorced Men's Club #4)

My goal this weekend is to try to catch up on all of the new recent (and not so recent) releases that I keep putting aside for one reason or another. Here's Saxon James's "Employing Patience." It's the fourth book in her Divorced Men's Club series.

["Art
When it comes to regrets, I have none. My life is perfect. I own a bar, work hard, party harder, and smother my niblings in all the love they deserve. I don’t need to settle down, as much as my sister might want me to.
But then Joey Manning walks into my office and leaves me all but begging to give him a job … and wanting to give him so much more.
The self-professed straight man is in my head and while I know that I need to move on from him, my body isn’t getting that message. It doesn’t help that Joey is a grade A flirt who can banter with the best of them.
I’ve never had regrets. Not until Joey Manning.

Joey
The bills keep piling up and the pressure to get my sisters through college before we’re evicted is always on the back of my mind. Whoever said life was for living, clearly forgot that living’s expensive.
My default mode is stressed AF and working myself to the bone, and there’s only one person who gives me a break from all that.
Art de Almeida.
My boss.
The one man I shouldn’t flirt with, but I can’t seem to stop. I want to get under his skin. To leave him panting for me. Which wouldn’t be such a bad thing except that he thinks I’m straight, and I’ve never bothered to correct him.
I need this job.
But some days I worry that I need Art more.
"]

This book took me for a loop. I just...after reading all of the other DMC books in this series, I assumed that Joey wanted Art, but Art kept saying no. I. had. it. fucking. backwards. God. Art wanted Joey all along, but Joey wasn't entirely sure about what his feelings meant, except that he loved flirting with, messing with, and challenging Art. And Art thrived on it just as much as Joey did.

I love the one quote in here: "'Sexuality is a fuckhead, huh?'" Which is so. fucking. accurate. So accurate, it's scary and relatable and...Happy Pride Month, y'all.
